HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 c84W
Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans are envisaged for the future use of the Banstead mental illness hospital.

Mrs. Currie

Banstead was one of the first of the large Victorian mental illness institutions to close in 1986 when patients were either moved to community placements or other hospitals.

The North West Thames regional health authority is now in the process of seeking a buyer for the site and buildings.

Any disposal of the Banstead hospital site is the responsibility of the North West Thames regional health authority. For further information the hon. Member may wish to contact the chairman of the authority.
