To ask the Attorney-General how many licences have been issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers.

Two hundred and twenty three licences have been issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers.

To ask the Attorney-General how many persons holding licences issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers are presently in practice as non-solicitor conveyancers offering conveyancing services to the general public.

Seventy-two persons holding licences issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers are presently in practice as non-solicitor conveyancers offering conveyancing services to the general public.

Twenty-one solicitors presently hold licences issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers.

Ninety-nine persons holding licences issued by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers are presently in the employment of solicitors.

To ask the Attorney-General to what extent the costs of the Council for Licensed Conveyancers are still being met by public funds.

For the period 1 January 1986 to 31 March 1989 the Council for Licensed Conveyancers is in receipt of a total grant in aid of £200,000. For the current financial year £55,000 has been allocated.

To ask the Attorney-General if he will list the rules already made by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers with concurrence of the Lord Chancellor; and what other rules have been drafted by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers which are presently awaiting the concurrence of the Lord Chancellor.

Those rules which have been made by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers with the concurrence of the Lord Chancellor are: the Council for Licensed Conveyancers' Licensing Rules 1987; the Licensed Conveyancers' Training Rules 1986; the Licensed Conveyancers' Practice Rules 1987; the Licensed Conveyancers' Accounts Rules 1986; the Licensed Conveyancers' Accounts (Deposit Interest) Rules 1986; the Accountants' Report Rules 1986; the Licensed Conveyancers' Indemnity Rules 1987; the Council for Licensed Conveyancers' Compensation Fund Rules 1987; the Investigating Committee and Discipline and Appeals Committee Rules 1987; the Licensed Conveyancers' Discipline and Appeals Committee (Procedure) Rules 1987.

The Lord Chancellor has also made the Licensed Conveyancers' Discipline and Appeals Committee (Legal Assessor) Rules 1987.

The rules which are outstanding are: the Council for Licensed Conveyancers' Recognised Bodies Rules 1987; the Council for Licensed Conveyancers' Recognised Bodies Practice Rules 1987, together with various consequential amendments to the rules already made.
