HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 c16W
Mr. Galloway

To ask the Attorney-General what instructions were given by the Crown prosecution service to counsel regarding the attitude to be taken to any request from defence counsel for proceedings involving Mr. Frank Larsen at Lambeth court on 22 October to be held in camera.

The Attorney-General

At the hearing to which the hon. Member refers the Crown prosecution service was not represented by counsel but by one of its own staff. His attitude was neutral: he neither supported the defence application, nor opposed it.

Mr. Galloway

To ask the Attorney-General, pursuant to his statement to the House on Friday 23 October,Official Report, column 1095, what happened between 21 September and 7 October to convince the Director of Public Prosecutions that the case could not result in a conviction.

The Attorney-General

On 7 October the director's staff were advised by counsel that there was not a realistic prospect of the conviction of the remaining three defendants. They accepted that advice.
