HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 c832W
Dr. David Clark

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the Government plans for the future funding of his Department's research budget; arid if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The new planning provisions for expenditure on agriculture, fisheries and food, announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Autumn Statement, include reductions of £5 million and £10 million respectively for 1989–90 arid 1990–91 to reflect the changing balance between public arid industry funding which the Government consider desirable for research and development work.
