HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 cc824-5W
55. Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent representations he has received regarding policing costs for the 1987 Conservative party conference.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We have received representations from the Lancashire county council and police authority and from 14 hon. Members and one member of the House of Lords seeking a special payment from central Government towards the additional policing costs of the 1987 Conservative party conference. We have considered these representations carefully but concluded that we would not be justified in departing from normal police funding arrangements in this case, by which the Government meet the greater part of any additional costs.
