§ 68. Mr. McTaggartasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects lead-free petrol to be readily and widely available in Britain.
§ Mr. MoynihanEncouraging progress is being made. As at 12 October 1987, 519 petrol stations, providing good geographical coverage, were offering unleaded petrol for sale. I expect further rapid expansion, but the precise scale and timing will depend on increasing uptake by the motoring public, and the response of the petrol companies. We are taking a number of measures to encourage motorists to switch to the cleaner fuel.
