asked the Minister for the Arts what support women's theatre companies received from the Arts Council in the last financial year; and what proportion of the total funding of theatre companies this represents.

In 1986–87 two women's theatre companies (Monstrous Regiment and Women's Theatre Group) received joint funding of £140,000, which represents 1.2 per cent. of the Arts Council's allocation for drama, excluding the national companies. In addition, the Arts Council funded three women's theatre projects:

  • Theatre of Black Women
  • Blood Group
  • Women's Comedy Workshop.

Funding for these projects totalled £36,270 or 4.6 per cent. of the Arts Council's projects allocation.
