HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 c526W
26. Mr. Hood

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list the state benefits received by a mineworker or his spouse that are deducted from the mineworkers' weekly redundancy payments under the mineworkers' redundancy payments scheme.

Mr. Michael Spicer

A former mineworker eligible for weekly payments under the redundant mineworkers' payments scheme (RMPS) may have these payments reduced by deduction of all or part of the following state benefits received by himself:

  1. (a) reduced earnings allowance;
  2. (b) supplementary allowance;
  3. (c) supplementary pension.

No deductions are made from weekly benefits in respect of state benefits received by a beneficiary's spouse. However, where state benefits received by an RMPS beneficiary or his spouse affect the unemployment benefit to which the beneficiary would have been entitled but for exhaustion of entitlement, payments of unemployment benefit equivalent under the RMPS are affected similarly.
