HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 c392W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the current composition of the Police Complaints Board; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

The current membership of the Police Complaints Board for Northern Ireland comprises a chairman; deputy chairman; and six other members.

The Draft Police (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 was laid before Parliament on 16 December 1986 and is due to be debated in the House on 6 May. This provides, subject to parliamentary approval, for the abolition of the board and its replacement by the Independent Commission for Police Complaints for Northern Ireland.

The proposed membership of the new commission is a chairman; two deputy chairmen; and not less than four other members.
