asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has as to the average house price, at the mortgage completion stage, in (a) south-west England, (b) south-east England excluding Greater London, (c) East Anglia, (d) the midlands, (e) north England, (f) Scotland, and (g) Wales.

Mr. Tracey

The average price of houses mortgaged to the building societies in the east and west midlands in the final quarter of 1986 was £29,691 and in the three regions of the north of England was £26,751. The figures for the other areas are in table 1.13(b) of "Housing and Construction Statistics" No. 28, which is available in the Library.
