HL Deb 12 March 1987 vol 485 c1206WA
The Earl of Munster

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider extending the facilities for nuclear submarines at Devonport in order to provide better access than Faslane and Holy Loch to deep water and the open sea.

Lord Trefgarne

There are no plans to extend facilities for nuclear submarines at Devonport. The Royal Navy is content with Faslane as a base for its submarines and finds it operationally advantageous to have submarine bases in both the north and south of the United Kingdom. The United States Navy is similarly content with its facility at the Holy Loch.
