§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Britain's bilateral aid programme to Central America.
§ Mr. EggarBritish aid to the five Central American Republics, Belize and Panama in 1985, the latest year for which figures are available, amounted to £22,337,000. A total of £16,701,000 of this consisted of investments by the Commonwealth Development Corporation. The balance was spent on training and technical co-operation, mainly in the natural resources sector; on assistance to displaced persons; and on programmes of financial aid to Belize and Honduras, in particular for roads, bridges and water supplies. We also support small development projects co-financed with British Voluntary Agencies in Central America.
