HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 cc621-2W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the reply by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Derbyshire, South (Mrs. Currie) on 26 November, Official Report, column 295, whether he will give a breakdown of the figures provided in Tables (1) and (2) by the type of animal which inflicted the injuries on the people concerned; if he will also give the figures as to the total injuries caused to people by each category of animal; and what advice his Department gives on attacks by animals.

Mrs. Currie

I shall let my hon. Friend have a reply as soon as possible.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will update the information contained in his reply for 26 November, Official Report, column 295, to the latest date for which figures are available.

Mrs. Currie

Updated information on hospital statistics for Scotland is shown in the table. I regret that data on injuries for England and Northern Ireland for 1985, and figures on the number of deaths registered as being caused by animals for the constituent parts of the United Kingdom for 1986, are not yet available.
