§ Sir Brandon Rhys Williamsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish figures setting out by age, sex and marital status, the numbers of people above retirement age who have either no entitlement to the National Insurance retirement pension. or whose entitlement is less than the full amount.
§ Mr. ScottFull information is not available in the form requested. The largest group of people over minimum pension age not receiving any form of pension are married women over 60 who have chosen to rely on their husbands' contributions for pension purposes and who have no personal entitlement until their husbands have reached age 65 and have retired, but we have no reliable estimate of their number. In addition a number of people who have chosen to defer retirement beyond minimum pension age are not receiving pensions, although they may be entitled to do so.
Table 1 shows the numbers of people above retirement age who are receiving supplementary pension and who are not in addition receiving any contributory or non-contributory benefit.
Table 2 shows the numbers receiving basic pension at less than the 100 per cent. rate, and the numbers receiving graduated pension without basic pension.
Table 3 shows the numbers receiving non-contributory pensions paid to people aged 80 or over with no entitlement to a contributory entitlement or with entitlement at less than the full rate of non-contributory pension. It also includes non-contributory pensions paid to people over pensionable age on 5 July 1948, and to the wives and widows of men entitled to receive such pensions. Non-contributory pensions are awarded subject to residence conditions.
