HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c77W
Mr. Bill Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures have been introduced to monitor accidents at the junctions on the new Forfar bypass; if he has received a report on the serious accident which took place there on Wednesday 15 July; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Accident levels on Scottish trunk roads are regularly monitored, and the Forfar bypass will automatically be included. A safety audit of the road was carried out before the opening of the bypass. This involved representatives from the Scottish Development Department's Road Safety Advisory Unit, the police and engineers connected with the project. All were satisfied with the standard of the road. I have asked for a report on the circumstances which gave rise to the accidents. It is, however, for the police to investigate individual accidents and to take appropriate action.
