§ Mr. MoynihanI announced on 8 July a major review of the misuse of drugs in sport. This I am undertaking personally with the assistance of Sebastian Coe, deputy chairman of the Sports Council. I am determined to see every possible step taken to stamp out drug abuse in sport and I hope the review will help in bringing this about.

§ Mr. MoynihanNo estimates are available of the number of people taking drugs and other illegal substances in British sport. Not all substances banned by the International Olympic Committee are illegal; some are available on prescription or in over-the-counter preparations. The drug control and teaching centre conducted 2545 tests in 1986; there were 28 adverse findings.
