HL Deb 12 January 1987 vol 483 c471WA
Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many prisoners convicted of murder since 1966 have been released?

The Earl of Caithness

According to the records held centrally, which are approximate, about 570 murderers received into Prison Department establishments under sentence in the years 1966 to 1985 inclusive were released on licence by 31st December, 1985. A further 260 were transferred to non-Prison Department establishments, or were discharged for other reasons including successful appeals, or died.
