How many prisoners convicted of murder since 1966 have been released?
The Earl of CaithnessAccording to the records held centrally, which are approximate, about 570 murderers received into Prison Department establishments under sentence in the years 1966 to 1985 inclusive were released on licence by 31st December, 1985. A further 260 were transferred to non-Prison Department establishments, or were discharged for other reasons including successful appeals, or died.
