HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 c87W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what access was sought by officers of the Customs and Excise to an Indian diplomat, Babu Lal Gupta; and what was the outcome of their inquiries into allegations of drug trafficking.

Mr. Brooke

Mr. Babu Lal Gupta did not claim diplomatic immunity and was interviewed by officers of Customs and Excise with the full co-operation of the Indian High Commission on 8 June 1984. The interview, in connection with the seizure of 4.5 kgs of heroin from Mr. Hans Raj Sharma at London Heathrow airport on 30 May 1984 did not further the officers' inquiry. Later in June, on completion of his tour of duty in the United Kingdom, Mr. Gupta returned to India.
