HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 c68W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on his policy on crime prevention in the light of the first report of the community police consultative group for Lambeth on the entry and search of premises and seizure of property and recommendations, a copy of which has been sent to him.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The report of the community police consultative group for Lambeth on the entry and search of premises and the seizure of property was concerned with the exercise of police powers. The group recognised that it carried out its review before the Police and Criminal Evidence Act code of practice for the searching of premises by police officers came into effect on 1 January 1986, and that this was likely to bring about significant changes. We believe this code has resolved many of the difficulties identified by the consultative group, but we have agreed that, when the code is reviewed in due course, full account will be taken of the group's recommendations.
