§ 55. Mr. Forthasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many additional prison places will be created by 1991 through the prison building and refurbishing programmes.
§ Mr. MellorBy 1991 we shall have created about 9,900 additional places. Of this 5,100 will be in purpose-built new establishments (three of which have already been opened) and a further 4,800 places through redevelopment schemes at existing establishments.
