§ Mr. Tony Banks asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many civil actions were brought against the Commisioner of Police of the Metropolis in 1986; and how many of these were settled out of court.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggI understand from the Commisioner of Police of the Metropolis that in 1986 there were 188 cases in which a writ or summons was790W served on him in respect of alleged wrongful acts by police officers. Of these 188 cases, eight have so far been concluded by a settlement out of court.
