§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWe aim to support 340 major schemes costing £1 million or more, 70 schemes to be supported for the first time in 1987–88. The remaining 270 maintain support for schemes in previous settlements where local authorities continue to make satisfactory progress. Schemes bring road safety and environmental benefit as well as ensuring the effective flow of goods and people on more important local roads.
