HL Deb 02 February 1987 vol 484 c126WA
Lord Northfield

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give details of all prosecutions in the last 10 years for offences under the Protection of Animals Acts 1911 and 1912, relating to cruelty at the point of slaughter in slaughterhouses; and whether they consider that the legislation is adequate, and is adequately enforced, to provide protection in the case of slaughter of deer.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

I am not aware of any such prosecutions. The Government are currently considering recommendations by the Farm Animal Welfare Council for extending the legislation concerning the welfare of deer at the point of slaughter and for enforcement of the legislation.
