HL Deb 02 February 1987 vol 484 cc126-7WA
Lord Northfield

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What further information they have about examples of slaughter of deer in slaughterhouses following details given in the Parliamentary Answer 2nd December 1986 (H.L. Deb, col. 811); what detailed supervision took place by state veterinary officers; and whether supervision operates during unloading and during the actual slaughter process.

Lord Belstead

I understand that since October 1985 three slaughterhouses have slaughtered a total of some 675 deer in Great Britain. Officers of the state veterinary service have monitored both unloading and slaughter operations at all three slaughterhouses, which were supervised by local authority officials.
