HC Deb 18 December 1987 vol 124 cc810-1W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has, following the fatal accident involving a schoolboy at Queensferry, to improve road safety on the A494-A550 dual carriageway Ewloe to Shotwick.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Proposals currently programmed to improve pedestrian safety on the A494-A550 Ewloe to Shotwick trunk road comprise:

  1. (1) Improved pedestrian crossing facilities at Plough lane overbridge and the closure of all gaps in the central reservation between Ewloe and Queensferry.
  2. (2) A new pedestrian crossing facility near Sealand RAF camp.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to improve road safety at the junction of the A55 expressway, Hawarden bypass, and the A494 following the death of a cyclist in November; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The most recent recorded fatal accident involving a cyclist at this location was in April 1987.

Measures to improve safety for cyclists at this busy interchange are currently being considered.

Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if, in the light of recent fatal and other accidents on the B5127 Mold Ewloe road, he will review all aspects of safety with a view to reclassifying this road as a trunk road; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Clwyd county council has responsibility for all matters relating to the B5127 Mold to Ewloe road. The volume and type of traffic carried would not justify trunk road status.
