HC Deb 14 December 1987 vol 124 c419W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport on how many occasions rumble strips have been promised by his Department on the M57 to slow down traffic approaching the A57 in Denton; and why they have not yet been provided.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

I wrote to the hon. Member in March about the M67 rumble area proposal which was associated with the signal controlled crossing point which the motorway contractors then intended to provide on the A57. They later decided not to provide that crossing.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects the bridge over the M66 in Denton to be completed so that Windmill lane, Denton, can be reopened; for when it was originally promised; and if he will publish the reasons for the delay.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The remaining work at the bridge should be completed early in the new year. We had hoped that Windmill lane would reopen in October but unforeseen ground conditions led to delays in diverting statutory undertakers' apparatus.
