To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what representations he has made to the French Government with regard to the expulsion from France of Iranian dissidents;

(2) whether he will seek assurances from the French Government that none of the Iranian dissidents to be expelled from France will be returned to Iran against their wishes; and if he will make a statement.

No. The UNHCR, as the protection power in this case, has been playing the leading role and has been in touch with the French authorities. We have fully co-operated with the UNHCR over the return to this country of one of the Iranians who has refugee status here.
