To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the rate of pay for each Army rank frm private soldier through to field marshal for 1 April 1957, 1967, 1977, and 1987.

For most ranks there are many different rates that may be payable, and it is not practicable to list them all. I refer the hon. Member to the following published information.

1957 Service Pay and Pensions. Cmnd 9692 dated February 1956. (Rates of pay were not revised in 1957).

1967 Service Pay and Pensions. Cmnd 2903 dated February 1966. (Rates of Pay were not revised in 1967.)

The rates of pay that were effective on 1 April 1967 for service medical and dental officers have not been published in a Command Paper, but are set out as follows, expressed in annual terms:

Basic rates of pay were not increased in 1976 or 1977 but personnel could receive supplements, depending on the level of their basic pay.
