HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 cc276-7W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if potential purchasers of his Department's houses are notified before they buy of the potential implications for compensation for latent damage under the Housing Defects Act; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

In respect of any Home Office housing designated under the Housing Defects Act, which was consolidated in the Housing Act 1985, arrangements are made to notify prospective purchasers that grant aid under the provisions of the Act will not be available, since the defects are known and accounted for in the valuation. The Act specified that after 26 April 1984 purchasers would no longer be eligible for financial assistance.
