HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 c277W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was(a) the average number of days spent on remand by those remanded in custody for terrorist-type offences and (b) the number of bail applications refused, respectively, in 1986 and the first half of 1987, with regard to cases now completed in England and Wales.

Mr. John Patten

The only information which is readily available relates to prisoners convicted of terrorist-type offences who are now in prison custody in category A and does not cover prisoners who have been released or downgraded.

In 1986, the average number of days spent on remand was 329 and the number of bail applications refused was 21. No cases have been completed of such prisoners who were first received in custody between 1 January and 30 June 1987.
