To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when Maghaberry prison will be ready for full occupation.

There are two prisons on the same site at Maghaberry, one for women and one for men. The women's prison has been fully operational since March 1986. It is anticipated that the whole of the male prison will be available for occupation from January 1988. A gradual build-up of the population in the male prison has already started and will continue over the course of next year.
