Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what rate of return he expects to receive from the South of Scotland Electricity Board on the outstanding borrowing from him over the next 10 years.

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that at 30 November 1987 the average rate of interest on its outstanding borrowing was 11.8 per cent. The board's borrowings are expected to be repaid by instalments over periods ranging from one year to 21 years.
