Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his reply of 13 November,Official Report column 334, what assessment he has made of the accuracy of the weather forecasts provided for the broadcasting services in respect of west Wales; and if' he will review the geographical boundaries at present in use for these forecasts.

Mr. Sainsbury

A check is kept on the accuracy of the weather forecasts broadcast each day on BBC Radio 4 at 07.55 (for the day ahead) and at 17.55 (for the following day). For Wales, the average percentage correct over the past five years has been 83. The length, format and style of presentation are determined by the broadcasting authorities.
