§ Mr. VazTo ask the Attorney-General how much legal aid money has been paid to private solicitors to cover waiting time at court in each year since 1980 in the legal aid area covering Leicester.
§ The Attorney-GeneralInformation about the cost to legal aid of waiting time in the Crown court has been collected only since April 1986. From then until March 1987, £24,000 was paid to solicitors in respect of bills determined by the Crown court at Leicester. That amount includes the cost of time spent waiting at prisons to see clients in conference. Information about the cost of waiting time in magistrates' courts is not at present readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate expense.
