HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 c587W
Mr. Hayes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many working days were lost in his Department due to industrial action by civil servants in the period 1976–86.

Mr. Hurd

Comprehensive figures for the years 1976–80 are not readily available, although I can say that 8,220 working days were lost in the Home Office during the 1979 Civil Service pay dispute. The number of working days lost through industrial action in the years 1981–86 was 12,282.
