HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 cc553-4W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what duty the proposed National Rivers Authority will have to consult sea fisheries committees so far as pollution is concerned.

Mr. Moynihan

Currently, a sea fisheries committee is consulted by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when, in accordance with the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act, he is notified by a water authority of an application for consent to discharge effluent which might bear on the interests of that committee. The only change which will result from the creation of the National Rivers Authority is that the NRA instead of the water authorities will notify the Minister, who will then, as now, consult the committees affected.

he will now provide a complete list of the numbers of licences granted for the taking of birds of prey from the wild and the numbers of birds of prey taken under such licences, by species in each case, for each of the last five years and the current year to date.

Mr. Moynihan:

[holding answer 30 November 1987]Following are the number of licences issued since 1982 permitting birds of prey to be taken from the wild in England and Wales, and in Scotland, and the number of birds so taken.
