To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made in respect of erecting crash barriers on the central reservation on the A19 from Dishforth to the Tyne tunnel.

Good progress has been made in providing safety fencing to the A19 central reservations between Dishforth and the Tyne tunnel. 15.1 km have been completed.

Thirty five km are under construction and works to the remaining 40 km are scheduled to commence in the financial year 1988–89.
