§ Mr. ButcherThe United Kingdom's productivity growth in manufacturing industry has been the fastest of all major OECD countries since 1979 and the prospects for further growth are excellent. This compares with the period 1973 to 1979 when the United Kingdom was at the bottom of the productivity growth league.
