HL Deb 27 April 1987 vol 486 c1352WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will place in the Library a list of all foreign-registered fishing and ancillary vessels such as fish factories, fish carriers, and refrigerated cargo vessels that entered Berkeley Sound, Falkland Islands, from 1st October 1986 to 31st January 1987.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

I have requested this information from the Falkland Islands Government and will place it in the Library when it is available.

Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will confirm that Berkeley Sound is the only place in the Falkland Islands where fishing vessels have transferred their catch cargoes to ancillary vessels, and whether they will confirm that only fishing vessels registered in the USSR have transferred their catches at sea.

Baroness Young

Fishing vessels are required to transfer their cargoes to ancillary vessels in Berkeley Sound but can also tranship elsewhere with the prior permission of the Falkland Islands Government. No USSR registered fishing vessels have been sighted transferring catches in the Falkland Islands Interim Conservation and Management Zone (FICZ) since its establishment on 1st February 1987. No USSR registered vessels have applied for licenses in the FICZ.
