HC Deb 02 April 1987 vol 113 c589W
24. Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the initiatives that are being taken to combat alcohol abuse by under-age drinkers.

Mr. Mellor

A working group of the Home Office standing conference on crime prevention is reviewing the problem of under-age drinking and will publish a report and recommendations in November. The Home Office crime prevention unit is helping local agencies to establish a demonstration project in Coventry, which will develop local strategies to tackle alcohol-related crime including under-age drinking. These initiatives are complementary to the health education work being undertaken by the Department of Health and Social Security, and the Department of Education and Science.
