§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will give approval to the Liverpool arena project proposed by the Merseyside Development Corporation; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John PattenI understand that Arena Associates Ltd. is proposing to develop a multi-purpose sports complex, known as the Liverpool Arena, on a site near the Albert Dock in Liverpool and within the designated area of the Merseyside Development Corporation. The company has sought Government assistance of £3.6 million towards the £9 million development costs. This matter is currently under consideration and I hope to announce a decision shortly.
