HC Deb 02 April 1987 vol 113 c565W
Mr. Winnick

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps are being taken by the European Community to assist the Palestinians with food and medical supplies in the refugee camps in the Lebanon.

Mr. Chris Patten

The European Community contributes annually (about £22 million in 1986) to the feeding programmes of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which mainly benefit Palestinians in Lebanon. In addition, 2.7 million ecu (about £2 million) from the EC budget was allocated on 5 March 1987 to UNRWA, the UN Disaster Relief Organisation and the International Committee of the Red Cross towards their efforts to relieve conditions in the camps. Member states of the Community are also making their own contributions.
