§ Lord O'Haganasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will publish a table showing the percentage of the workforce unemployed in the travel-to-work areas that have assisted area status; and the percentage unemployed in each travel-to-work area in Devon and Cornwall
§ The Secretary of State of Employment (Lord Young of Graffham)The following tables show unemployment at October 1986 as a percentage of employees in employment plus the unemployed for all areas that have assisted area status in Great Britain, and for each travel-to-work area that is mainly or entirely within the counties of Devon and Cornwall. It is not possible to give unemployment for these areas as a percentage of the working population (including self-employed and HM forces) because statistics of self-employment are not available below regional level. For Great Britain as a whole, unemployment in October 1986 was 11.5 per cent of the working population, and 12.9 per cent of employees plus unemployed.
