HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c12W
23. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement detailing any further initiatives he may be considering to stimulate North sea oil exploration and development work.

30. Mr. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what estimate his Department has of job prospects of North sea oil developments, on and offshore.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The Government are concerned that worthwhile onshore and offshore oil and gas activity continues. Already this year I have approved 12 projects worth over £2 billion. In March I awarded 75 new onshore exploration licences. I am proceeding with the tenth round of offshore licensing, and I hope to announce awards by next summer. The projects I have approved and work flowing from new onshore and offshore licences will provide continuing job prospects in this vital sector of the economy.
