asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of staff employed in his Department's local offices in July 1979 and July 1986 in (a) Glasgow and (b) Glasgow, Central.

Mr. Lyell

The city of Glasgow is currently served by 15 of the Department's local offices whose total administrative area is not conterminous with the city boundaries. The constituency of Glasgow, Central is currently served by nine of the Department's local offices whose total administrative area is not conterminous with the constituency boundaries.

The number of staff in post on 1 July for the requested years is follows:—
