HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 c257W
27. Mr. Wolfson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made on plans for further police training; and if he will make a statement.

29. Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what changes have recently been made, or are about to be made, in the training of police officers.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Police training is subject to a continuous process of review and improvement. Plans for change currently being developed or under consideration at the national level cover all ranks and span probationer, career development, management and command training as well as more specialist functions.

37. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to seek to modify police training to meet the demands arising in the inner cities.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply given today to questions from my hon. Friends the Members for Sevenoaks (Mr. Wolfson) and Basingstoke (Mr. Hunter). Training in community and race relations aspects, which focus most strongly in inner cities, is receiving special attention; the inner city is the main theme of this year's senior command course at the police staff college.
