asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to introduce legislation relating to kidnap insurance; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

The possibility of measures against kidnap ransom insurance is being considered. Until that work is complete it is not possible to say whether legislation will be necessary.

36. Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recent discussions he has had with his counterpart in the Republic of Ireland about kidnap insurance.

This was among the subjects discussed at a meeting with my European Community colleagues, including the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Ireland, in the Hague on 24 April. It was agreed that further study was needed.
