HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 cc326-7W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what duties, levies and quotas are imposed on the import of foodstuffs from east Europe to the EEC; and if there are any significant differences in the duties, levies and quotas imposed on imports from East Germany to the Federal Republic of Germany by comparison with other east European countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

The current import duties charged by the Community are set out in the Official Journal of the European Communities, volume 28 number L331 of 9 December 1985; the current quotas on imports of East European products are set out in Official Journal volume 28 number L382 of 31 December 1985; and the levies which are charged by the Community are also published in the Official Journal, but these change frequently, there is no consolidated list of them, and it would be disproportionately costly to list them here.

East German products entering the Federal Republic of Germany are treated more favourably than those from other East European countries, in accordance with the protocol on German internal trade annexed to the treaty establishing the European Economic Community.
