Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the extent of the expansion of (a) senior attendance centres and (b) junior attendance centres since 1979.

Mr. Mellor

Since May 1979, 17 new senior centres and 34 junior centres have been opened. These include two junior centres which have been created by dividing existing centres.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many senior and junior attendance centres are available to males, females and both sexes respectively.

There are 130 attendance centres in England and Wales: 19 senior centres for males aged 17–20 years; 91 junior boys' centres (10 to 16 years); seven junior girls' centres and 13 junior mixed centres.
