HL Deb 20 March 1986 vol 472 c1145WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they can give an assurance that no facilities provided by voluntary and community organisations in Belfast will be allowed to close after 31st March 1986, and that no one working for such organisations will lose their job, as a result of the continual adjournment of the meetings of Belfast City Council; and

What steps they are taking to ensure that funding for voluntary organisations and community groups in Belfast that would normally be paid by Belfast City Council continues after 31st March 1986.

Lord Lyell

The Government consider it regrettable that the actions taken by the Belfast City Council have created serious problems for voluntary and community organisatons in Belfast and are anxious that support for these organisations by the Council should continue beyond 31st March 1986. However, the Government are unable to give the assurance requested.
